The belt is 100 inches long and 4 inches wide in the oblique fingerwoven style. The garters are each 23 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. The inspiration for the piece was the historic image of Sam Houston in his Cherokee clothes. The pieces are part of an exhibition at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum in Hunstville, Texas. All other textiles in the exhibition were created by Lisa Rutherford, Cherokee National Treasure, and expert in southeastern Indian clothing.
